What the city won't take
Per Phoenix City Code, all mattresses or furniture known or suspected to be infested with bed bugs are not acceptable bulk trash. The city flyer also excludes tires, household hazardous waste, appliances with refrigerants, and piles over 10 cubic yards. The City blocks bulk appointments around Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's.
Need it gone sooner?
Self-haul to a city transfer station (see listing above) or use a paid junk-removal service.

Couches and furniture
Furniture is bulk trash. Book a bulk trash appointment (phoenix.gov/bulktrash or 602-262-6251) and follow the placement rules in the mattress section: within 5 feet of the curb, by 5:30 a.m., no earlier than 7 days before. Appliances (fridges, freezers, AC: freon)

See the City's Appliance Recycling page for current terms. (Phoenix Transfer Stations)
TVs, computers and electronics (e-waste)
Phoenix transfer stations accept CRT and non-CRT TVs. Residents can bring up to two CRT units per household per month free; the City lists a fee for additional CRTs (see the official page). The City also points residents to Westech Recyclers for computers, phones, monitors and printers. (Phoenix Transfer Stations; Phoenix HHW page)
Paint and household hazardous waste
Phoenix solid waste customers can get a free HHW home collection (one per customer per calendar year). As of 2026-10-12, the City's request form says reservations are currently closed. To find out when they reopen, email hhwcollection@phoenix.gov. Transfer stations do not accept regulated hazardous waste. (myPHX311 HHW; Phoenix HHW)
