Mattresses and box springs

Mattress short answer: Dallas picks up mattresses monthly in brush and bulky item collection for residential customers. Find your collection week on the City's calendar, then set the mattress out Thursday-Sunday before that week, just behind the curb in front of your home.

Mattress options at a glance

Step by step

  1. Find your collection week on the City's 2026 Brush & Bulky calendar or call 3-1-1.
  2. Set the mattress out between Thursday and Sunday before your collection week. Earlier set-outs can be cited.
  3. Place it just behind the curb line in front of your home. Not beside the house, not in an alley, not on a neighbor's lot.
  4. Keep it 5 feet from carts, mailboxes, fences/walls, water meters, hydrants, poles, signs and parked cars, and out from under low limbs or power lines.

Watch the fees

Set-outs over 10 cubic yards (or with prohibited items) are generally collected and billed at $60 per 5 cubic yards, and can also be cited. If you have a big clean-out, request the once-a-year 20 cubic yard exception through 311 the week before your collection week.

Couches and furniture

Household furniture and carpet are accepted in monthly brush & bulky collection: up to 10 cubic yards, set out Thursday–Sunday before your collection week, just behind the curb. Same placement rules as the mattress section. (Dallas Brush & Bulky)

Appliances (fridges, freezers, AC: freon)

Stoves, washers, dryers and water heaters are accepted curbside. Appliances containing coolant, gasoline or other chemicals are NOT: air conditioners, refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers, lawnmowers. We could not verify an official City drop-off for freon appliances. Call 3-1-1. (Dallas Brush & Bulky)

TVs, computers and electronics (e-waste)

Electronics are not accepted curbside. Dallas residents can drop off TVs (CRT, flat-screen, console, projection), computers, monitors, laptops, printers, microwaves, game consoles and much more at the McCommas Bluff Landfill or one of the three Sanitation transfer stations. See the City's Landfill & Transfer Stations page for hours. (Dallas Electronics Recycling)

Paint and household hazardous waste

Paint and chemicals are not accepted curbside. Dallas residents get free disposal at the Dallas County Home Chemical Collection Center, 11234 Plano Road (214-553-1765), or at network collection events. Bring proof of current address. Accepted: paint and home repair products, lawn and garden chemicals, aerosols, pool chemicals, cleaners, batteries, auto fluids, fluorescent tubes, computers and cell phones. Not accepted: appliances, TVs, microwaves, containers over 5 gallons, medicines. The City page lists hours (Tue–Thu plus 2nd and 4th Saturdays), but some of its holiday info is dated, so call to confirm before you go. (Dallas Home Chemical Waste Disposal)
